Thai Police Arrest Man Accused of Recruiting Minors for Prostitution

Thai police have arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of recruiting and arranging underage girls for prostitution, with investigators alleging that he used social media to connect minors with paying customers.

The suspect, identified as Saran and also known as “Yot”, was arrested on September 5 under a warrant issued by the Phra Khanong Criminal Court. According to police, he is facing allegations including human trafficking, arranging minors for prostitution and facilitating prostitution.

Authorities say the scale of the suspected operation may be significant. During questioning, the man allegedly admitted that he had previously arranged approximately 50 girls for customers.

Police Discovered “Yot the Kids” Account

Investigators reportedly identified the suspect while examining an online network allegedly being used to bring people under the age of 18 into prostitution. Their investigation led them to a social-media account operating under the name “Yot the Kids”.

According to police, the suspect contacted girls through social networks and also approached young people living near his home in the Soi Dan Samrong area. He allegedly initially presented them with offers of paid work.

Police say profiles advertising the girls were subsequently circulated in closed online groups. The posts allegedly contained photographs, names, prices, restrictions and specific meeting locations.

Investigators also found material that reportedly made explicit reference to some of those advertised being under 18. Girls shown in photographs were allegedly required to hold a sign bearing the words “Yot the Kids”, identifying them with the network.

Customers Allegedly Paid Additional Booking Fees

Police claim the suspect charged customers a separate fee for arranging meetings. The reported rates were 500 baht for one person and one arrangement, 1,000 baht for three, or 1,500 baht for unlimited arrangements and people.

The amounts reportedly charged by the girls themselves averaged between 3,000 and 5,000 baht per appointment.

As part of the investigation, officers secured social-media accounts, photographs, messages concerning arrangements, payment records and bank information. A mobile phone was also seized as evidence.

Among the alleged victims identified in the investigation was a 17-year-old girl whom police say the suspect arranged for and delivered to a customer. The evidence collected during the investigation ultimately led authorities to seek an arrest warrant.

Previous Conviction Involving Child Sexual Abuse Material

The suspect was already known to Thai authorities. In January 2022, he was arrested during an operation targeting a network distributing child sexual abuse material.

Police reportedly discovered numerous files on his computer at the time. According to the source, he admitted receiving 500 baht for distributing such material and was subsequently sentenced to 12 months in prison, with the sentence suspended for two years.

The new allegations are substantially different in nature because investigators now accuse him of directly facilitating the commercial sexual exploitation of minors.

The case also illustrates an important distinction in discussions surrounding the adult industry. Consensual sex work between adults and the sexual exploitation of children are fundamentally different matters. Children cannot consent to commercial sexual exploitation, and allegations involving the recruitment or trafficking of minors concern serious criminal abuse rather than adult sex work.

Following his latest arrest, the 38-year-old was transferred to the responsible police investigators as the case proceeds.
